TGIF - March 23, 2012.

TGIF, except I have to work tomorrow. I'm a little nervous about it, as it's been a while since I've coached.
I can get in to some of today's holidays, as it is National Chip and Dip Day. National Chip and Dip Day celebrates America's favorite snack duet. If you re holding a party, it is almost certain that chips and dips are on the snack list. Since it doesn't specify what kind of chips or what kind of dip...take your pick. I would think Tortilla chips and salsa would count.
I vaguely remember this date: March 23, 1989....do you? It's the date that gives us our next holiday: Near Miss Day. It commemorates the day a huge Asteroid nearly missed hitting the earth. An asteroid the size of a mountain, came within 500,000 miles of a collision with Earth. In interstellar terms, it was a near miss. Had it collided with the Earth, it would have left a devastating crater the size of Washington, D.C., and it's affect on the planet would have been catastrophic. Hey, I guess this is a reason to celebrate....LOL.
Oh, for you pet lovers, it's National Puppy Day. (and before I get asked, NO, I don't know when kitty day is). This holiday even has a website. http://www.nationalpuppyday.com/index2.htm This holiday is to celebrate the magic and unconditional love that puppies bring to our lives. But more importantly, it's a day to help save orphaned puppies across the globe and educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills, as well as further our mission for a nation of puppy-free pet stores. There are so many dogs and puppies that are waiting for a good home. Lily was a puppy when we got her....she and her littermates had been dumped on a highway. Maggie was a severely abused and beaten (and dragged by a car) young dog when we adopted her. The cruelty of people never ceases to amaze me....but I digress..... Yes, we will be adopting another dog at some point, as Lily needs a companion.
And lastly, it's Kick Butts Day. No, this isn't related to Chuck Norris....it's the day for youth to STAND OUT ... SPEAK UP ... and SEIZE CONTROL AGAINST BIG TOBACCO. http://www.kickbuttsday.org/ You can go to the official website and click on a map to find events and activities going on in your area.
I hope all of you have a great weekend. Hopefully, the pollen count will stay down a little after last night's storms.
