Do You Know What Holiday it is Today, January 25, 2011?

There 2 holidays that are celebrated today. First, it's Opposite Day, so it's is a topsy, turvy day when everything you say, do, see, and hear are the opposite. If you say go left, you mean go right. If you say look up, it means look down. Have Breakfast for dinner and dinner for breakfast....have fun and enjoy. I know the school kids usually celebrate this day, and apparently, Sponge Bob has an episode dedicated to Opposite Day.
The other holiday is A Room of One's Own Day.  That certainly is an odd celebration...but I guess celebrate your space, whether big or small. I really wonder who came up with this one....Did someone just decide that there was a blank day on the calender and say, "Hey, why don't we celeberate having your own room?" This also makes me curious as to what the strangest holiday is going to be.
Coming up are some really ~interesting~ holidays, so stay tuned for more....and have a terrible (that's correct for opposite day, right?) Tuesday.

Do You KNow What Holiday it is Today, January 24, 2011

Ah, I found 3 holidays celebrated today....and the first one is a holiday that my husband can really get in to. LOL. It's Beer Can Appreciation Day, the day we celebrate when beer was first sold in cans, back in 1935. Though there are a lot of beer can collectors out there, I would imagine most people are more interested in what is IN the cans than the cans themselves. So sit back, relax, and appreciate your can of beer today.
The other holiday celebrated today is Compliment Day. Today is a great opportunity to say something positive about the people you come into contact with. Everyone has good attributes. ...that's right....... everyone. I know some people are more difficult to compliment then others though.
This holiday was created in 1998 by Kathy Chamberlin, of Hopkinton, NH. and Debby Hoffman, of Concord, NH. I don't know how or why though. This is all the information I found, not that I really looked all that hard.
Now don't forget.....if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Backhanded compliments probably shouldn't be given today, nor should insincere compliments.
And lastly, it's Belly Laugh Day, so chortle, chuckle, convulse, crack up, giggle, grin, guffaw, hee-haw, howl, roar, scream, shout, shriek, simper, smile, smirk, snicker, snort, split, tehee, titter, whoop and laugh out loud today. I know with how this day is going, I need a good laugh.
Now, to all my Gather friends....have a good day....(and I'd love to say "this beer is for you," but I don't drink beer).....and laugh long and loud.

You Know You Live In The South When......(this is true!...and funny)

As many of you know, we've had a big storm here in Georgia. Not only do we have 6 inches of snow, but we have a layer of ice on top of it. The roads are a disaster....full of ice. Georgia really doesn't have the equipment to take care of snow and ice.
So, I'm listening and watching the news tonight, and an official is talking about how they have the manpower but not the equipment. The Georgia Dept of Transportation (GDOT) official says that they were having workers clear off the streets by hand, with shovels. Oh boy....that's going to take a LONG while...only in the south....
Then the news shows this guy that got out his ice skates and is skating all up and down Peachtree Street (very famous here), since it's just coated with ice. Peachtree is a main street in downtown Atlanta. That did crack me up...as I do have ice skates and seriously though about doing that on my street.
Okay....this takes the cake though. The news show and talk to a woman that is clearing the snow and ice off her sidewalk (remember it's 1/2 foot of snow) with a DUST PAN. Oh my goodness! I can't stop laughing....only in the south would someone use a DUST PAN to try to remove snow. She was literally on her hands and knees scooping the snow with that dustpan.....LMBO. It was going to take her hours to clear off her sidewalk...

Do You Know What Holiday it is Today, January 15, 2011?

Today's holiday isn't nearly exciting as yesterday's....but according to my calender, today is Humanitarian Day.  It is one of three Emancipation Days of Respect which honors the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. by promoting unity, respect and remembrance.
According to what I found on the internet, the Emancipation Days of Respect are Humanitarian Day (January 15th – MLK’s Birthday), Victims of Violence Holy Day (April 4th – Anniversary of MLK’s death) and Dream Day Quest and Jubilee (August 28th – Anniversary of King’s “I Have a Dream” speech).
So, if today is Humanitarian Day, then why are the kids off on Monday? After a week off due to snow and ice, the kids should be in school Monday. Do you realize Angela will have been off school for 10 days, almost as long as her Winter break?

Snow, Snow, and More Snow

It's snowing here in Georgia, and I mean SNOWING. The rate is about 3 inches in an hour, and we have over 4 inches on the ground already. I know for those of us from up north, that really isn't a lot. We don't have plows here, however....so there is no way to clear the roads. Highways are completely shut down....and a state of emergency has been declared for a lot of counties, including mine. Over 2,000 flights out of the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport have been cancelled. This is just amazing.

We went out for a little bit when the snow was first starting....
Yes, that is Angela....in her SHORTS. She was just acting goofy, which is the norm for her. The funny thing is, Angela is not happy that school is closed Monday....she wanted to go to school. Also, no school means no dance.

Hopefully, we won't be getting the ice and freezing rain that we are slated to get on Monday. If we get the ice, then there is a good chance we'll lose power. Hundreds of trucks from other states are suppose to be coming our way, just in case.

Stay warm.....and stay safe.

Happy New Year!

I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. Thank goodness 2010 is over, because it was a difficult year for us....and a lot of friends had difficulties also. The highlight of 2010 had to be the birth of my 2 neices, about 6 weeks apart.....they are adorable.
