Yes, It's MY Fault.....

This week Angela is off school for a mid-winter break, and Mike is out of town for business. Since we have next to no money, Angela and I thought we'd do some free and inexpensive things. We were able to go to the taping of the Fox TV show So You Think You Can Dance, and Angela will probably be on camera even. We had a lot of fun.
Well, Angela wanted her hair dyed....and I pick my battles (no tatoos and no body piercings). She had to get it cleared with dance first, and she couldn't do weird colors or anything (like purple). I didn't think it would be a big deal, so we bought a box of Revlon 49 hair dye. I read ALL the directions and was VERY careful. Um, well, her hair didn't turn out right at all....oh my goodness it looked odd.....and very splotchy and multicolored.
I called the hair dresser first thing yesterday morning and left a message on her machine. I finally got ahold of her about 1 pm.....and she got Angela right in. She assured me that I couldn't have screwed it up too bad, since it wasn't green or falling out. When Cher saw Angela's hair, she couldn't believe it.....it was much worse than she thought it would be. Uh-Oh. No, I didn't dare take a photo of what Angela's hair looked like BEFORE the hair dresser.
So what did I do wrong? Angela's hair is just too thick and there is too much of it. One box of hair dye was too little. Cher said I needed 4 boxes. Now, how in the world would I have known that??? I just read the package and the directions. At least I didn't try to redye Angela's hair myself.
It took about 2 1/2 hours and 4 tubes of hair dye to 'fix' Angela's hair. Yup, I would have needed 4 boxes to actually color her hair right. Oops. Mike hasn't seen her hair, of coarse.....and boy, I can't wait. He's going to have a tizzy. IT's um....unique now. LOL. She doesn't look like my Angela though....(sniff, sniff)....and it is my fault. Thank goodness neither of us are high strung or panic easily....LOL.

Okay, I can't take credit for how she dresses though.....

Happy Valentine's Day AND.......

Yes, today is Valentine's Day....we all know that. However, there are a variety of holidays that are also celebrated today. I think I'll end up listing them today...
1). Ferris Wheel Day: George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. a civil engineer, made the first Ferris Wheel at the World's Colombian Exhibition in Chicago in 1893. I'd say go ride a Ferris Wheel, but how many amusement parks are open in February....just those in California and Florida....even here in Georgia, Six Flags is closed.
2). Clean Out Your Computer Day: It's a day to review and delete old files and programs. Since computers have huge storage capacity, we tend to add programs and files without even flinching.  Many of these files and programs are forgotten over time (I have thousands of photos on my computer). Overtime they clog memory and cause confusion during retrieval and use of other files, and, some may slow down your computer. I need to clean my computer, and I know that....and run a deep computer virus scan too, just for good measure.
3). National Organ Donor Day: This doesn't mean run out and donate an organ right now....It's the day to sign up though. Please do it, as it may save a life!!!

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has designated Valentine's Day as National Organ Donor Day, since 1998, to raise awareness of the lives that can be touched -- potentially more than 50 at a time --through one person becoming an organ and tissue donor.
4). Library Lovers Day: Oh, I love this one, as I love to read. Celebrate your library by going to check out a book. Can you believe I actually found a song on you tube that celebrates Library Lovers Day? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTYklHU6DKM
5). National Condom Day: I guess this one goes hand in hand with Valentine's Day. I've read some very odd things about this day. Did you know the Danish word for Condom is ...'svangerskabsforebyggendemiddel' ?
The oddest thing I read is "WEar a Condom to Save Wildlife. Remember that 2010 was the Year of the Tiger and 2011 is the year of the Rabbit. With more people more forests will be felled, more rivers polluted, more wilderness destroyed. Think before you make love, before lust clouds your judgement. Wear a Condom and Save a Tiger and remember what they say about Rabbits....Save Our Planet."   Yeah...take this one as you will.
6). National Call in Single Day: Singles all across the country are encouraged to pick up the phone, take a day off from work, and set aside some time for themselves. Nobody can love you like you, so make sure you love yourself a lot today. Good luck....
7). Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day: Congenital Heart Disease is considered to be the most common birth defect, and is a leading cause of birth-defect related deaths worldwide. Jeanne Imperati of Connecticut, herself the mother of a child with a congenital heart defect, in 1999 conceived the idea for an annual awareness day to reduce childhood deaths, and increase funding to support congenital heart defect related causes and cures.
8). International QuirkyAlone Day: or IQD for short. "International Quirkyalone Day is a do-it-yourself celebration of romance, friendship, and independent spirit. It's a celebration of all kinds of love: romantic, platonic, familial, and yes, self-love. International Quirkyalone Day is not anti-Valentine's Day. It's NOT a pity party for single people. It's an alternative--a feel-good alternative to the marketing barrage of Valentine's Day and an antidote to the silicone version of love presented in shows such as Hooking Up and The Bachelor." This is according to the IQD website...yes, website. http://quirkyalone.net/qa/iqd.php  You can read more about this holiday at the link.
Okay, not I may have missed a holiday, and you can see why. There is a lot being celebrated today. I could spend all day celebrating, if I had the time. LOL. So, celebrate something today....and chocolate goes with about any holiday....and I take handouts.

Wa-Hoo Green Bay Packers!!!

Congratulations to the Green Bay Packers for winning the Super Bowl last night. You really did put the Steelers in their place.

Sunday, February 6, 2011

Super Bowl Sunday....

The game is now on, so I have to say "Go Packers!" Why, you ask? Well, my neighbors are big Packer Backers, and since my team isn't playing, I'd better go with the neighbors.

Angela is rooting more for the Steelers, as the owners of the dance studio are big into the Steelers.

Do You Know What Holiday it is Today -- Thursday, February 3, 2011

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of holidays today....perhaps due to the one that is celebrated today. It's The Day the Music Died Day. I am not old enough to have been around when this happened, but I do know all about it. The Day the Music Died Day commemorates the untimely death of singers Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. These three Rock singers died in an airplane crash on February 3, 1959, at the height of their popularity. Country singer Waylon Jennings (a bandmate of Buddy Holly) was suppose to be on that plane, but he gave up his seat to the sick Big Bopper (Jiles P. Richardson).
Don McClean, in his song American Pie (not to be confused with the rated R movie by the same name), actually coined the phrase The Day the Music Died. The song was released in 1972 and became a number one hit. It's still fairly popular, as I know my kids know all the words to the song.....and to the parady song sung by Wierd Al (but that's a topic for another time).

I have also heard that today is the Chinese New Year, marking the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit.....

So, listen to American Pie....or perhaps a song from Buddy Holly, Richie Valens or the Big Bopper......and have a cup of tea to celebrate the Chinese New Year. And hopefully tomorrow's holiday(s) won't be quite so depressing.

Just When You Think You've Seen Everything......

I was looking around the web for a specific item Angela needs for dance, and I came across Zombie Jerky. Okay....yeah....I just had to read more. Hey Sassy Cat, I think you need to review this one. LOL.

From the Web site: http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/wacky-edibles/e5bc/?cpg=152H&image#tabs
Eat or be eaten.

So you've destroyed the brains of your first zombie. Congrats! But now what? What do you do with the festering, rotting body? It was just this question that plagued (get it?) us at TG Zombie Defense HQ. We thought about mailing them to someone we didn't like, but that was just too costly (and he had already been zombified, anyways). After a lot of discussion, we decided the only sensible thing to do with the re-dead undead was to eat them. A few experiments later, we discovered the only safe way to eat zombie corpses was to turn them into Zombie Jerky!
Zombie Jerky is a delicious way of dealing with the undead. Seriously, though, Zombie Jerky is really just tasty chunks of teriyaki beef jerky - accented with green stuff. Packaged in a neato specimen pouch, Zombie Jerky will prove to everyone that you'll eat anything (and also earn you lots of grossed out looks). And all the while, you'll know it's not really ex-people. Or is it?!? Hey, zombies have been eating us for years - it's time for us to return the favor with Zombie Jerky.

Well, I guess this would be good to serve at Halloween.....or maybe on one of my Saturday B Movie Nights..... I could have a party, with the tag line: Don't just watch Night of the Living Dead, but Eat Some Too. If anyone decides to try Zombie Jerky, please, please let the rest of us know how it tastes.
