Wednesday -- 4/11/2012

Oh, the pollen here is killing me. I itch so bad right now that it's not even funny. The meds are working only a little....I just wanna scream!
1). International "Louie, Louie" Day: This day comes on the anniversary of the birth of composer Richard Berry, who wrote the song "Louie, Louie." It's also commemorates the release of the original version this week back in 1957.  Apparently, “Louie Louie” has been recorded more than any other rock song  in history....and the Kingsman version (1963?) seems to be the most popular.
2). Barbershop Quartet Day:This day honors four guys with great voices....and seems to go hand in hand with "Louie, Louie" day...LOL.  This day celebrates the founding of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 11, 1938. Barbershop Quartets date back to the early 1900's in America. Even The Simpsons has had at least one barbershop quartet on their show.
3). Eight Track Tape Day: Now don't these just keep getting better and better today? LOL  I remember eight track tapes, which ruled the music world in the 60's and 70's.....the format came out so people could listen to their music in their cars.....and was replaced by cassette tapes....which was replaced by CDs. If you still have tapes and a player, by all means enjoy the day listening to some great  (or not-so-great)music. If not, just spend a few minutes looking back in time to when you loved your eight track tapes!
4). National Submarine Day: My first thought on this one was, does it celebrate the sandwich or the boat? A submarine is a vessel designed for underwater operations that can still sail on the water's surface. Aristotle described a submersible used in 332 B.C. by the sailors of Alexander The Great. There is also evidence that a primitive sub was built around 200 B.C. in China, but it was centuries later before the first real sub was built in 1620 by a Dutchman (of wood encased in leather). The first 'modern' sub purchased by the United States on this date in 1900 for $150,000 from Holland....so, my thought is that this day celebrates the underwater vessel....but celebrate with a sub sandwich. LOL
5). National Pet Day: The holiday was created by Celebrity Pet Lifestyle Expert & Animal Advocate, Colleen Paige.  National Pet Day is “to celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives and to create public awareness about the plight of many different kinds of animals awaiting a forever home in shelters all across the nation.” – National Pet Day Website. So give you pet some extra love and a treat today!
Well, I am back to paying bills....and praying I can afford to pay them. I'm so sick of medical bills, and of coarse everyone wants their money yesterday.
I guess I'll give Lily a treat, though she's already a very spoiled doggy.
